MISSION & VISION
Formed in 1980, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health’s (NPWH) mission is to ensure the provision of quality healthcare to women of all ages in both primary care and specialty care. This mission includes protecting and promoting a woman’s right to make her own choices regarding her health while acknowledging her personal, religious, cultural, and family beliefs. The organization seeks to champion scientific and holistic healing for the unique needs of women across their lifetimes. NPWH strives to improve access and quality of health care for women through excellence and innovation in continuing education and professional development; leadership in policy, practice and research; and support and services for its members. ACTIVITIES
On their website, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health states the organization is active through practice, education, research, policy, and membership. In practice, by improving women’s wellness and health outcomes, decreasing health disparities affecting women, and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure client-centered care and high-level patient satisfaction. In education, through increasing knowledge and clinical competence of women’s health care providers and mentoring the next generation. In research, by fostering evidence-based practice through continuous quality improvement. In policy, by Professional Organization: Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health 3 advocating for policies that support women and collaborating with strategic partners to enhance the effectiveness of those policies. The NPWH believes that using the best evidence is the key to practice excellence and being able to provide high quality health care. Therefore, the association established the Professional Organization: Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health 4 Research Agenda for Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. The Research Agenda has two goals. The first goal was to identify gaps in practice evidence, and then to develop clinical research priorities to address these gaps. The second goal was to promote information that encourages clinical researchers to pursue these priorities. On 2013-2016, the Research Agenda Committee identified priorities such as family planning, sexually transmitted infections, preconception care, preterm birth, obesity, cancer, mental health, violence, menopause, and access to care.Nurse Practitioners In Women’s Health
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health is open to licensed Nurse Practitioners or Certified Nurse Midwives or students enrolled in one of these programs. Members enjoy benefits such as national representation in Washington, D.C., opportunity to attend the NPWH annual conference, complimentary subscription to their online journal, and several accesses to continuing education activities. In addition, those interested may choose a dual membership with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
